Saturday
– 3/23/2019 – Today we drove to Surprise and to visit our friends
John and Donna and to see a Brewers spring training game. John got
tickets at Surprise Stadium which is the cactus league home of the
Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals. The brewers were playing
the Royals in a split squad game. Donna had a conflict and could not
come to the game with us. John got great seats directly behind the
Brewers dugout. Neither Dennis nor I are baseball fans but we enjoyed
the game, especially since they won!
After
the game we returned there house to rendezvous with Donna. We then
headed to Glendale to check out another restaurant featured on
Diners, Drive-ins and Dive. This was a bar-b-que joint called Thee
Pitts Again. We enjoyed visiting with John and Donna one more time
before we head home.
The
weather has been really nice with temps in the 80's. We have been
taking advantage of this and spending time swimming and hanging out
at the pool. Dennis finished a third leaded glass project. We also
stopped over by Pat and Donna to pick up a few things they want taken
home. They are flying back to Wisconsin and have some items they do
not want to take on the plane. Donna gave us some yummy treats she
made.
Friday –
3/29/2019 – This morning we participated in the park poker run then
decided to do a little more sight seeing. We drove south to the small
town of Florence. First stop was McFarland State Historic Park. The
park is a building which was once a courthouse and served many roles
since it was constructed in 1878. This is the oldest standing
courthouse in Arizona as well as the largest adobe structure still in
existence from the period of 1863-1912.
After
visiting the park we took a walk along Main Street. There are a few
historic buildings which house various shops. We drove a little
further south on Main Street and stopped at the Old Pueblo Restaurant
for lunch.
After
lunch we headed west out of town to Casa Grande Ruins National
Monument. This monument preserves an ancient North American desert
community. The center piece is an adobe structure thought to be
completed around 1350. It is constructed of caliche, a sand, clay and
limestone material common in the area. It is estimated that it took
300 tons of caliche to construct. Nearby there are the remains of
several small villages. Very interesting place and well worth a stop.
Saturday
– 3/30/2019 – The park was having a end of season celebration
with games and food trucks. I had plans to go back to Horseshoe
Equestrian Park in Queen Creek to watch a Cutting Event. In addition
to the cutting there was a Barrel Racing competition as well as a
local Gymkhana show. The arena that the cutting was in did not have
any bleachers so you had to stand and watch through a couple of pipe
fences. Not ideal and hard to see. The barrel racing was in the
indoor arena and was the most fun to watch. In the evening we
attended the park dance.
Sunday –
Spent a little time packing up the camper as tomorrow we leave. In
the evening we attended a fair well party in the backyard of some of
our neighbors.
Where
we are parked:
– Sunrise RV Resort Site 238– 500 sites – heated swimming pool,
hot tub, shuffle board, horseshoe pits, pickle ball and tennis
courts. RV site rates: We paid $804.40 which included a referral
discount. There are other rates for extended and fall only stays.
