Quartzsite - New Friends and Old

1-15-2019-1-21-2019

Tuesday – It started raining last night about 5:00. Woke up to rain this morning and it rained off and on all day. Pretty heavy at times. Lots of water running all over the desert. It finally stopped around 4:00. Someone told us they measured over and inch and one half of rain. I putzed around in the camper most of the day. Dennis went to the Gem Club to cut and polish stones. He worked on one of the pieces of Larimar we purchased last year and it turned out great! It is going to be a birthday gift for our friend Donna.

At 1:00 the Escapee Club hosted a happy hour. We were not sure it was going to happen but about 12:45 the rain let up. There were quite a few people there but not as many has last year. About 2:00 the rain started again so that was the end of the party.

Wednesday – The rain has stopped and the desert has dried out so we took a long walk this morning. On the way back we stopped my the Escapee Boomers area and talked to a few people. After lunch Dennis attended a presentation on RV refrigerators while I worked on my basket weaving. Our friends Mike and Terry had contacted us a while ago to say they would be coming to Quartzsite after visiting relatives in Las Vegas. They arrived today around 3:30. It was so good to see them again. And...bonus....they have a little dog (Kes) that is very friendly so I get to get a dog fix. Yeah!! As soon as Kes arrived she went right to our camper, up the steps and looked in the door. Not sure if she was looking for Buddy or just being nosy.

Saturday/Sunday – Headed to Phoenix to visit with John and Donna. It is Donna's 60th birthday and they were having a birthday party. We visited with them and their friends and relatives and ate lots of great food. Dennis gave Donna the Larimar pendent and I gave her a small pine needle basket I had made. She loved them both.

J and D were gracious enough to let us stay overnight. We had breakfast with them and spent most of the morning catching up including hearing about their trip to France this past spring. Sounded wonderful and they had a great time. We arrived back at the camper around 3:30.

There was a special celestial event tonight. A Super Blood Wolf Moon lunar eclipse. It was cloudy early in the evening so we did not see the moon rise but later the sky cleared and we were able to watch the eclipse.

Monday – The weather has been pretty nice with highs in the upper 60's and lows in the upper 40's to low 50's and fairly light winds. Today we had strong winds which makes it feel a lot cooler. We went to the Gem Club this morning. I went to work on my pine needle basket and Dennis went to the Lapidary shop and did a couple of stones. In the afternoon we walked through the RV Show.

Where we are parked: Quartzsite Plomosa Road Short Term Visitor Area – (33.7674661,-114.1694770) We parked at the extreme eastern edge of the visitor area. The Escapees Chapter 6 and 21 folks are a short walk away. This is free dry camping area with a 14 day limit.
