Bullhead City -Jet Boat ride and more petroglyphs

03-12-2018 thru 03-18-2018

Monday - Plan on leaving to head east on Wednesday so we went to Riverside Casino for supper to use our second buffet coupon.

Tuesday we enjoyed a jet boat ride down the Colorado River to Lake Havasu. The trip cost $70 per person and was two hours down and back with a two hour stop at the London Bridge for lunch. The weather was beautiful with high in the low 80's. We boarded the boat around 9:30 at the Edgewood Casino and headed down river. A few of the highlights included viewing the million dollar river homes along the river and passing through the scenic Havasu National Wildlife Refuge. The pilot spotted a bighorn sheep on the cliffs above the river but neither Dennis nor I could see it. We ate lunch at Barley Brothers Brewery. We boarded the boat to head back to Laughlin around 1:30. That evening we played Mexican Train with the park guests.

The boats docked at Lake Havasu. We rode in the smaller one.

After looking at the weather forecast for Wednesday it was decided to stay at this park for another week. There is a high wind advisory for tomorrow so not a good day to travel and we would like to enjoy the warmer temperatures for a few more days. We changed our plans and instead of going up to Moab we are going to head straight east on I-40 then head north at some point. We will stop at Petrified Forest National Park on the way along with anything else that may be of interest. Will be saving the Moab area for another trip. We may take a slight detour to visit an old work colleague of Dennis' who recently purchased a vineyard in Wichita Falls, TX.

Thursday we headed for Grapevine Canyon to see some petroglyphs. It was a 10 mile drive west on Hwy 163 to Christmas Tree Pass Road. Then about a 2 mile drive on a gravel road to the trail head parking area. We walked about a ¼ mile to the canyon and petroglyphs. Then we continued on Christmas Tree Pass road all the way to Hwy 95. The road take you along the base of Spirit Mountain and through lots of unique rock formations. The entire road was gravel and little bumpy in spots but well worth the trip. At the top of the pass we saw the decorated trees that the pass and road are named for.

On Friday we attended a St. Patricks Day lunch at the park. They had Johnsonville brats and potato salad. Then we took a drive to check out some other RV Parks in Needles. We stopped at North Shore RV Park and The Palms River Resort. Neither one are as nice as the one we are at. We also checked out a KOA Campground across from the AVI Casino. A stay here included access to all the Casino amenities including a pool and a beach on the river. An ok campground. Back in Laughlin we drove into the Big Bend of the Colorado State Park. It is pretty small (24 sites). Camping rate is $20 plus $10 for electricity per day. However we discovered you can purchase an annual pass for $200 that get you free camping. Not a bad deal.

Nothing too exciting on Saturday and Sunday. We stopped at another RV park in Bullhead City down in the valley. Fiesta RV Park was very nice. An older park with smaller roads and spaces. The clubhouse looked great with two pools and a hot tub and lots of activities rooms including a lapidary shop. The price was right at under $500 a month. On Saturday night we went to the Edgewater Casino to listen to an Irish band to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. A few showers went through on Saturday evening.

We were told before we came here that it is always windy. So far that has been the case. Out of the 11 days we have been here it was windy all but 3. Daytime temperatures have been anywhere from the low 60's to the low 80's. We like the park and the location as there is lots to do at Casinos in Laughlin. Also mountains on each side of us are beautiful. Just don't know if we could get used to the wind.

Where we are parked: Vista Del Sol RV Resort – Bullhead City, AZ. - site 41. 89 full hookup sites, two pools and a hot tub, pickle ball courts, activities rooms and a wood shop. Very nice park with extra large sites. We paid a special introductory rate of $99 for the week. Regular daily rates: $35-$45 Weekly rates: $175-$250 Monthly rates: $500-$695.
