Tuesday
October 10 – On to Albuquerque
Sunday
and Monday we stayed at Lake McClellan Campground. Sunday we drove 15
minutes to McLean TX to go to the Barbed Wire Museum. Unfortunately
the museum was closed. I forgot to look at the hours before leaving.
The town is on Route 66 but like many Route 66 towns is pretty well
shut down. There was not much else to see so we went back to the
campground and spent the rest of the day doing chores and relaxing.
Overnight
the temperature dropped and a strong wind kicked up. We moved to an
electric and water site to do wash. It was also nice to have the
electric so we could run our electric fireplace. We needed some
groceries so drove the 35 miles to Pampa TX to do shopping. Once back
at the camper we finished the wash and we pretty much stayed inside
since it was so cold and windy.
Tuesday
we left McClellen and headed west on I-40. Our reservations at the
Balloon Fiesta Campground begin on Wednesday. We drove a few hours
west and stopped at a rest area in New Mexico at exit 252. From here
it will be around a 1 ½ hour drive to Albuquerque.
Temps:
Sunday was another very warm day with highs in the mid 80's. Not as
humid though. The flies were pretty bad at this campground and
especially since there was a cold front coming through. Monday
morning temperature was in the low 40's with 25 to 35 MPH winds. Sure
glad we were not traveling today. It only warmed up to the low 50's.
Tuesday morning was still cold at 39 degrees and still rather windy.
As we moved west it warmed up to 60 degress and the wind died down. I
was concerned that it was going to be too windy for the balloons to
go up but the visitor center host at the New Mexico Visitor Center
said she thought they went up every day this week. Nice!
