Thursday
October 5 – Toto! I think we are in Kansas!
Thursday
morning we left Omaha and headed south and west toward Wichita
Kansas. We woke up to a steady rain then made breakfast in the
camper. We packed up in the rain and it rained on and off the entire
day. We were looking to stay at McPherson Fishing Lake campground at
Maxwell Wildlife Refuge near McPherson KS. It had rained most of the
day and I was concerned the 20 miles of (potentially gravel) roads
over to the Fishing Lake would be a mess. After doing another search
on freecampsites.net we located a city park in Lyons Kansas with free
camping. It was a little further but it was worth it as we would have
electricity and did not have to worry about bad roads. It is a nice
little park with about a dozen sites. We may stay a few days as we
have been driving a lot and could use a break. The park manager
stopped by to welcome us and told us about the city owned golf
course. It is a nine hole course and you pay on your honor. He said
it was free but we checked it out and there was posted rates and pay
envelopes. If we stay a few days we may go golfing.
Temps:
Again the temperatures varied from 60 degrees mid morning to 77
degrees and very humid in Lyons KS. Tonight's lows are expected to be
in the upper 60's. The high tomorrow in the upper 70's low 80's with
rain and thunder showers in the evening.
Where
we are parked: Lyons Overnight Trailer Park – Lyons Kansas.
Nice little campground with about a dozen sites on a drive around
loop road. The sites are gravel but not very distinct. The sites have
30 amp electric. There is restroom with showers and a dump station.
