Saturday
October 7 – Storms, Alva OK
Friday
morning we had every intent to stay in Lyons at least another night
or two. However the weather changed that. We knew there were storms
predicted for the evening so we were keeping an eye on the weather.
Sure enough about 4 o'clock or so they started firing up to the north
and west of us. I was watching one cell in particular that was headed
in our direction. There was a severe storm warning associated with
this storm with baseball size hail and 70 mph winds. I looked like it
was going to come pretty close to us so since our house is on wheels
we decided to move. It looked like the storms would not be as severe
further south so we packed up and headed out. We ended up in Alva and
stayed in a Walmart parking lot. The storms caught up with us around
11:00. Lots of wind and rain but no hail. I don't know if we were
lucky or good but was glad we dodged the really bad weather.
Saturday
we picked out a few potential campsites to check out. We bypassed a
county park in Laverne OK and a wayside park near Miami TX. We ended
up at Lake McClellan Campground in the McClellan Creek National
Grassland in Texas. Being Saturday the campground was pretty full but
we found a non-electric site overlooking the lake.
Temps:
Friday it was very warm and humid, high in the mid 80's. Saturday
morning we woke up to 57 degrees. By noon it had warmed up to 76
degrees and a lot less humid than yesterday. A really nice day.
