Barataria Preserve

Today's temps: High 70º, Low 60º

This morning I thought I would call Kohler to touch base with my old co-workers. I was on the phone for and hour and a half and it was nice to talk to them.

In the afternoon we went to the Jean LaFitte Barataria Preserve Trails. The visitor center was closed but we met a ranger and he told us about some of the trails in the preserve. We took the Bayou Coquille Trail to the Marsh Overlook Trail to the Marsh Overlook, a little under 2 miles round trip. It is made up partially of raised boardwalk and gravel paths. The beginning of the trail is a raised boardwalk and as soon as we started I spotted an armadillo shuffling along next to the walkway. We watched him for a few minutes then he ducked under the boardwalk. Dennis was the alligator look out and he spotted several along the way. We also saw a heron, a rabbit, a gecko and an eagle.
