Moving to New Orleans

Today's Temps: High 68°, Low 50°

Moving day! We stayed 7 days at Buccaneer State Park and that is our longest stay so far. Now its time to move to New Orleans and Bayou Segnette State Park. We made reservations at this park back in December as we were not sure how busy it would be because of Mardi Gras.

It is about a 1 1/2 hour drive to the park. We left around noon hoping to miss some of the mid-day traffic in New Orleans. A few miles into Louisiana we stopped at a visitor center. We picked up some information on NO. They recommended a different route to the campground other than the one the GPS was giving us. We continued on I-10 then took the I-603 bypass then back on I-10 to Clearview Parkway. From there the GPS told us to turn onto Lapalco Blvd but we should have turned on the Westbank Expressway. After a few extra miles we arrived at the park. Dennis was a little stressed out once we got to the park but we arrived safely so all is good.

We were told we could get a discount on our camping with the National Park America the Beautiful Senior Pass (affectionately known as the Geezer Card). However you have to be a resident of Louisiana or another state whose state parks excepts it. Heaven forbid if Wisconsin would participate! So we had to pay full price.

Up until this point Dennis has been doing a great job backing the trailer. Today however it took quit a few back and forth maneuverings to get it in the right place. I struggle to know what directions to give him. It didn't help today as our phones would not connect so we could not talk to each other. We are still working on our communication in this process and I am sure it will improve.

Where we are parked: Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, LA, Site 62, $20/night, water and 50 amp electric, no sewer but they have a dump station. There is free Wi-Fi but as with most campgrounds it is not very robust. They have two bathroom/shower buildings with laundry facilities. There is no cost to use the laundry washers and dryers. Cool! Some of the sites have nice wooden decks. It would be nice to get one of them if we come again.
